Two Top-Notch Courses Give Players a Choice

Mark Twain once described golf as a good walk ruined, but the game remains a favorite of Mt. Juliet residents - and they have two outstanding courses from which to choose.

In fact, the area’s booming population is keeping courses busy with a steady flow of golfers.

“Mt. Juliet is growing at such a tremendous rate that we’re finding more and more local people, new players, coming out every day,” says Craig Sanford, general manager of Pine Creek Golf Course.

Pine Creek, on Logue Road, is a par-72, 18-hole course with Bermuda fairways and bent-grass greens set on 2,156 rolling green acres. The course is known for its beautifully maintained greens and playability.

“Our strongest suit is the course itself,” Sanford says. “It can be fun for lower-skill-level players, but it also challenges those with higher skill levels as well. You have a little room to make mistakes and recover.”

Pine Creek offers players a log cabin-style clubhouse with seating for 150 and two additional conference rooms.

A driving range, putting green, full snack bar, pro shop, locker rooms and an outing pavilion complete the amenities. The course is public, with various memberships also available. A variety of greens fees and equipment rentals are offered, and pro Chad Mires provides instruction at all levels.

Players come largely from Mt. Juliet, but the customer base also includes folks from Murfreesboro, Franklin, Crossville and Cookeville. The course hosts a busy calendar of tournaments and is popular with female players.

“We’ve gotten a little more lady-friendly in the past couple of years since we built two very nice bathroom facilities on the course,” Sanford says.

Windtree Golf Club on Nonaville Road boasts 18 scenic holes and beautiful views, and it attracts players of all skill levels.

“We are one of the best-maintained, friendly-to-the-golfer courses in the area,” says head pro Dan Felton. “The low-handicap golfers will score well, and the high-handicap players will feel good about themselves.”

The course offers five par-5 holes and five par-3 holes, which means more scoring opportunities for players. The course measures 6,500 yards, with Bermuda fairways and bent-grass greens. The front nine holes are a links-style layout, and the second nine winds through rolling hills.

A full clubhouse contains the Grille restaurant, a pro shop and banquet/meeting facilities. Windtree Golf Club also offers a two-tiered driving range and a practice green.
